Students Invited To Audition For OCTC’s Productions of Mean Girls & Legally Blonde Jr.

The Greater Ocean City Theatre Company (OCTC) is preparing for its 16th Anniversary Season of educational and professional theatre. Students passionate about musical theatre are encouraged to audition for the OCTC Junior Company, which closely follows the structure of OCTC’s professional company. The Junior Company casting process for students in 5th-12th grades as of Fall 2023 will take place on May 6th or 7th by appointment only.

The OCTC Junior Company productions will feature two iconic movies turned into successful Broadway musicals; MEAN GIRLS: High School Edition and LEGALLY BLONDE JR.

MEAN GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL EDITION

Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady and her friends devise a “Revenge Party” to end Regina’s reign, she learns you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung.

Adapted from Fey’s hit 2004 film, Mean Girls was nominated for a staggering 12 Tony Awards. This queen-bee took Broadway by storm and has joined the musical in-crowd.

MEAN GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL EDITION is open to students in 9th grade through 12th grade as of September 2023. Current high school seniors/members of the Class of 2023 are also eligible to audition. Performances will be held at the Ocean City Music Pier on July 21st & 22nd at 7:30pm.

LEGALLY BLONDE JR.

Based on the award-winning Broadway musical and the smash hit motion picture, LEGALLY BLONDE JR. is a fabulously fun journey of self-empowerment and expanding horizons. The show’s instantly recognizable songs are filled with humor, wit, and sass — leaving cast members and audiences alike seeing pink!

LEGALLY BLONDE JR. follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery, and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. When Elle’s boyfriend, Warner, dumps her and heads to Harvard, claiming she’s not “serious” enough, Elle takes matters into her own hands, crafting a showy song-and-dance personal essay and charming her way into law school. Befriending classmate Emmett, and spunky hairdresser, Paulette along the way, Elle finds that books and looks aren’t mutually exclusive. As Elle begins outsmarting her peers, she

realizes that law may be her natural calling after all.

LEGALLY BLONDE JR is open to 5th through 8th grade students as of September 2023. Performances will be held at the Ocean City Music Pier on August 25th & 26th at 7:30pm.
