It’s “spooky season” and the little monsters are hungry. Kicking off the holiday season, or what I like to call, “eating season,” means treats, treats, and more treats! Whether you’re planning a Halloween bash at your home or sending goodies into the classroom, these healthy treats are here to please the hungriest gremlins.

Candy Corn Parfait

Truth: I am a part of a small group of candy corn lovers. However, straight sugar offers an inevitable sugar rush. This fruit-inspired twist on candy corn is sure to be a crowd-pleaser for your little ones. Some fresh pineapple, mandarin oranges, and homemade whipped cream are all you need for this fruity parfait.

Homemade Whipped Cream: Combine 1 cup heavy whipping cream, 3-4 tbsp powdered sugar, and 1tsp vanilla in a mixing bowl. Beat until peaks form. Enjoy!

Sneak a little hidden protein into your little ones with this super simple Halloween treat. A little caramel popcorn garnish is sure to win over even the pickiest eaters.

Slice an apple into ½” thick slices and prop onto a green popsicle stick. Dye a bowl of Greek yogurt with all-natural orange food coloring then spread onto the front of the apple. Decorate with chocolate chips and garnish with caramel popcorn. Enjoy!

Silly Apple Bites

For an allergy-free option, consider using sunflower or nut-free butter for this yummy apple treat. An apple monster a day definitely keeps the doctor away. Check out this recipe from sulaandspice.com.

Carefully cut off the core from the edge of each apple quarter.

To make the mouth, cut a wedge into the middle of the apple.

Coat the inside of the mouth with sunflower butter/peanut butter.

Place 3-5 sunflower seed kernels on the top of the mouth for teeth.

Place a thin strawberry slice inside the mouth for a tongue.

Then, dab a small amount of peanut butter on the back of each googly eye and place it above the mouth.

All you have to do is line a baking pan with parchment paper, add in your yogurt of choice (bonus points for making it orange), add spooky toppings, and FREEZE! So simple, so delicious, so festive.

Happy munching, Shore Local families and Happy Halloween!
