In its fifth year presenting concerts on the Beach and Boardwalk, Tony Mart Presents “Mardi Gras AC” the CRDA Summer Concert Series, Wednesday night, June 19 through September 4, 2019, Live at Kennedy Plaza on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City these musical cultural celebrations feature World Class Funk, New Orleans Rhythm and Blues, Classic Rock, Roots Rock and the best Jersey Shore Rock and Roll concerts presented by world famous recording artists and performers in 12 party concerts amazingly great and free!
June 19th the party begins with “The world’s greatest bar band” The Nighthawks along with the one of the greatest boogie woogie piano players and most hilarious comedians in roots music today, the Reverend Billy C. Wirtz. These multi international Blues Music Award Winners will be followed by the preeminent 11 piece Steely Dan Tribute,” Countdown to Ecstasy”, paying homage to one of the greatest progressive rock bands of all times.
On June 26th it’s the Crown Prince of New Orleans Funk, Rhythm and Blues, Ivan Neville with his world renowned jammin’ Dumpstaphunk.
On July 3rd the spectacular Jersey Shore Rock and Roll show “The Music that made Tony Mart’s Famous” will feature the most famous songs by the greatest bands that ever played at Tony Mart’s starring Michael “Tunes” Antunes from Eddie & the Cruisers and Atlantic City’s own, Teddy Royal from the Fats Domino Band. The show includes the music of Bill Haley, Conway Twitty, Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels, Joey D and the Starlighters, Del Shannon’s “Runaway” and of course the immortal songs composed by John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band for the classic movie “Eddie & the Cruisers” filmed at Tony Mart’s in 1982. The show also features a special tribute to “Levon and the Hawks” later known as “The Band” after their discovery by Bob Dylan at Tony Mart’s in 1965.
On July 10th Tony Mart Presents a rare east coast appearance by 5 time Grammy nominated folk, blues, pop artist Maria Muldaur performing her gold record “Midnight at the Oasis” followed by one of the greatest West Coast jump swing performers of all times, Rick Estrin and the Nightcats, who became famous as “Little Charlie and the Nightcats” winning dozens of awards for more than 40 years on the international concert circuit.
On July 17th it’s one of the finest reggae bands in the world, Third World, performing their mega hit, “Now that we found Love” and many other hit songs in a fabulous reggae concert featuring 2 original members of Bob Marley’s early Kingston Jamaica recording sessions.
Also that evening the first South Jersey appearance of the lovely and talented Marcella Simien and her Lovers starring the daughter of two time Grammy award winner Terrance Simien.
On July 24th it’s a celebration of the greatest east coast classic rock, rhythm and blues versus legendary New Orleans funk, rhythm and blues when Gary US Bonds performs his mega hits “Quarter to Three” and “Down to New Orleans” while living legend of New Orleans Rhythm and Blues, Walter “Wolfman” Washington and the Roadmasters show why they have dozens of accolades and Big Easy Awards. Over the past 40 years Walter has been honored countless times as one of the greatest R&B musicians in the history of the city that gave birth to American music.
On July 31 multi Grammy award winning Phantom Blues Band starring “Big Mike” Finnegan and “Slammin’ Tony” Braunagel will demonstrate why they are one of the finest groups of roots, rock and blues recording artists in the history of Texas and Los Angeles having played with Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal, Joe Cocker, BB King, Jimi Hendrix, the Blues Brothers, the Animals, Stevie Ray Vaughn and many others.
Much more information will be released about the rest of the summer schedule which includes a performance by the Press of AC 2018 Band of the Year, “Quasimodo’s Bride” opening for one of the hottest and most popular New Orleans jam bands over the past 30 years to be announced on June 6th. On August 14th it will be Jumpin’ Johnny Sansone’s Jersey Gumbo starring the great John Papa Gros Funk.
On August 21st it’s the return of 2 time Grammy award winning Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience performing world music and Louisiana Zydeco like no one else. Also Bobby T’s tribute to the great Johnny Winter.
On August 28th it’s Remember Jones’ classic tribute to Queen, Mad Dogs and Englishmen, the Music of Joe Cocker and Leon Russell as well as the Weeklings Tribute to the Beatles starring Glen Burtnick from Styx, Beatlemania and ELO.
Also to be announced in the future, the finale concert on September 4th will star one of the hottest new bands on the national concert scene this summer along with our own Jersey Shore Rock and Soul hero, Billy Walton and the phenomenal Billy Walton Band.
