What’s even better than a dog friendly event? An event created especially FOR dogs! The Absecon Veterinary Hospital is hosting their second annual “Bark in the Park” event, a day of dog-friendly events to raise money for Laddie’s Legacy, a registered non-profit 501(c)3 charity. The event will take place this Saturday September 17th between 11 am and 5 pm at the 4H Fairgrounds, Mays Landing (3210 Rt. 50, Mays Landing, NJ 08330).

Laddie’s Legacy is a charity which was established in memory of Laddie, a beautiful Maine Coon cat who had to unfortunately be surrendered to Absecon Veterinary Hospital because of his owner’s financial struggles in paying for Laddie’s increasing medical bills. The money they raise goes towards helping other families who face dire financial difficulties when their beloved pets require medical attention. A representative from the hospital and a member of the charity’s board, Cherie Scheurich, stated, “It’s a great way to raise funds to support Laddie’s Legacy, which seeks to alleviate this heartbreaking decision by aiding pet owners to help offset the financial burden of emergency care when the pet has a favorable outcome. We believe that the place of loving, cherished animals in families should never be threatened by concerns over the cost of unforeseen veterinary care.” The funds are being raised in the hope that no family will have to make this kind of decision again.

On the day, there will be several different activities for both pets and their owners to enjoy. For the adults, there will be a beer garden with a wide selection of different beers. There will also be an array of food trucks and vendors selling different goods and services. Some of the featured food vendors include Reds Rolling Restaurant, selling a huge selection of delectable loaded nachos, paninis, flatbreads, and salads. NitroGirl will be there with their liquid nitrogen ice cream! They claim to sell some of the creamiest and smoothest ice cream you have ever tasted owing to their unconventional preparation method. They use liquid nitrogen to make their ice cream which freezes it eighty times faster than traditional ice cream makers and eliminates the formation of large ice crystals which causes the ice cream to become grainy. There will also be food trucks selling pizza, BBQ, and Thai food, including several options for vegetarians.

Vendors include several dog rescue shelters who will be on hand to give visitors more information about what they do and how you can rescue a pet. Rescue shelters include Only Maine Coons, and Rowdy Rescue Group. Jahli Creations will be there selling their homemade soaps, sanitizers, coasters, and much more. All of their soaps and sanitizers are made using natural and non-toxic ingredients, including their moisturizing flea and tick repellent dog soap. The Vintage Sloth make unique gifts such as car charm air fresheners, humorous nurse badge clips, and personalized wooden baby name signs. Several other vendors will be selling homemade jewelry and artwork.

There will be dog specific activities, including a dog show, dog training demonstrations, a dog-pie eating contest, “ruffle” baskets, and even the chance for your dog to create a unique piece of artwork at the doggy nose painting class! For the kids, they will also have the chance to enter a pie eating competition, and there will be relay races, pony races, and much more! This is a fun and interactive event, suitable for kids (and fur babies) of all ages.

Entry to the event is only $5, and you can pay on the door. For more information about the event or to find out more about the amazing work of Absecon Veterinary Hospital, check out their website: https://abseconvet.com/.
