1929—First time OCBP Captain Jack G. Jernee endorsed a sun protection cream

1930—OCBP Captain Jack G. Jernee gave Charles Curtis, vice president of the United States, a tour of the beach and boardwalk

1930—T. John Carey, Ocean City High School student and Ocean City lifeguard, won three state track championships—shot put, discus and javelin

1934—First summer the OCBP used the logo with crossed oars over a ring buoy

1934—First time the

National Lifeguard Tournament was held in Ocean City—OCBP won

1934—First summer the local lifeguards used a surfboard for ocean rescues

1936–First Ocean City Lifeguard —Harry Thorning—to set a flagpole sitting world record. He spent 60 days 70 feet above the sea on the mast of Harry Hackney’s sailing yacht in Miami, Florida.

1937—First time the OCBP won the South Jersey Lifeguard Championship

1939—First OCBP reunion was held at the Flanders Hotel

1940—First OCBP flag ceremony held on the Fourth of July beside the Music Pier

1941—First time the lifeguards raised money for the March of Dimes

1941—Lifeguards manned the lookout tower on the top of the Music Pier to watch for enemy aircraft
