Prior to December 7th of 2018, military veterans in need of skilled nursing home care in Atlantic County had to leave their community and travel across the Delaware bay into Wilmington to get the services they needed.

Now military veterans in Atlantic County need look no further than Atlantic County’s Meadowview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Northfield.

The county owned and operated facility has been approved for a five-year contract with the US Department of Veterans Affairs, Wilmington Veterans Administration Medical Center. Meadowview is now  accepting veterans for medical services covered by the Veterans Administration.

“We are pleased and eager to provide these services for our local veterans,” stated County Executive Dennis Levinson. “This is something that Atlantic County has pursued from the time I became county executive. It is a huge accomplishment that was strongly supported by Congressman Frank LoBiondo as well as our veterans organizations and advocates, especially the late April Kauffman.

“Having these services available locally will not only benefit our veterans but also their family members who can more easily visit them and transport them without the complication of extensive travel,” added Levinson.

Meadowview has always held a special place for veterans as demonstrated by its annual Veterans Day program, monthly pizza parties coordinated by AmVets Post 911, as well as a new Healing Garden on the property where veterans can find comfort, beauty and solace.

Robert Frolow, Director of Veterans Services for Atlantic County addressed the crowd at the Veterans Wing ribbon cutting.
