Last Minute Gift Ideas for the Foodie On YourList

Last Minute Gift Ideas for the Foodie On YourList

By Marci Lutsky

If you are like me, you have just gotten around to making a holiday gift list.  While I love a good Amazon gift card as much as the next person, I much prefer personalizing gifts.  If you have a foodie on your list to buy for, you have come to the right place.  Everyone likes to eat, right?  On this list you will find something for everyone who likes to cook and/or eat.

In my opinion, you can never go wrong with gifting a cookbook.  My collection grows by the month and even though my family thinks I have some cookbooks which have never been opened, I look through them frequently.  When it comes to buying a cookbook, think about the person you are buying for.  Are they vegetarian or a baker or interested in special kinds of diets? For the vegetarian or farm to table enthusiast on your list I would recommend How to Cook Everything Vegetarian by Mark Bittman, Dishing up the Dirt by Andrea Bemis and The Oh She Glows Cookbook by Angela Liddon.  For the baker, anything by Dorie Greenspan is a gem and her new book, Everyday Dorie, will be appreciated by anyone who likes to cook.  For the person on your list resolving to eat better in the new year, Skinnytaste One and Done by Gina Homolka will become a bible.

While cookbooks are a great gift, so are magazine subscriptions.  The nice thing about magazine subscriptions is that they come not just once but all year round.  I have canceled my paper subscriptions and gone to digital subscriptions which I can read on my tablet.  My favorites are EatingWell, Cooking Light and Cook’s Illustrated.

If you know someone who wants to become more adept in the kitchen, a cooking class gift certificate is always a winner.  Happy Heart Corner offers kids cooking class gift certificates.  Other good venues to take a cooking class are the Egg Harbor Township Recreation Department and Kitchen 19 in Hammonton.

Do you have a coffee drinker on your list?  If so, give them the gift of high quality fresh coffee.  If you plan to shop at the Linwood Holiday Farmers Market on Sunday, December 16th, visit Verity Coffee Roasters.  They roast the freshest coffee you can find and with such integrity.  Pair a bag of coffee with a handmade mug from Pottery Therapy and you will surely bring a smile to any coffee drinker’s face.  While you are at it, add a gift card to a special coffee shop like Jessie’s of Linwood or Hayday Coffee in Atlantic City.

As always, try to shop locally this holiday season.  If you want our special small businesses to stay in business, make sure to support them.  If you found some ideas on this list that you would want for yourself, feel free to cut it out and leave it for the person most likely to shop for you.  There is no harm in dropping hints at what you want.  Happy shopping this holiday season!
