Hurricane Season is Here
Weather with Noreaster Nick
It’s that time of the year again. Hurricane season officially arrived on June 1.
I know it can be a scary time for us – especially with the images of Hurricane Sandy still fresh in our minds. But as long as you’re prepared and informed, the process of dealing with tropical systems is easier.
The one thing I must stress to everyone reading this is the importance of having a plan of action in place that the whole family knows and understands.
Know where the coastal evacuation routes are.
Know where to get your up-to-date weather information.
Know where your office of emergency management is located.
Know who is in charge of your city’s emergency plan.
And have a kit prepared that has candles, batteries, flashlights, medicine and other supplies that will help in the event of an emergency.
I’m not expecting a wild hurricane season in terms of the number of named storms because El Nino is developing in the Pacific, and that will help keep the numbers down. But keep in mind; it only takes one storm to cause devastation. Hurricane season runs through Nov. 30. Stay in the know!
