The Egg Harbor Township Recreation Commission each year presents the Coach of the Year award. The award is given to an outstanding youth sports coach or volunteer who exemplifies the Coaches Code of Ethics and is a great role model for the children of our community. The Recreation Commission is pleased to announce BJ Hamilton as the Coach of the Year award winner for 2022.
BJ is born, raised, and resides in Egg Harbor Township and has a lifelong love of street hockey.
Coach Hamilton has coached in the EHT Street Hockey Organization for 17 years. He has also served as a boardmember for 14 years and is currently the EHTSHA Travel Hockey Coordinator. Bj also coach for three years for EHT Middle school Ice Hockey and is a 20-year member of the Remembering Jamie Foundation.
The Coach of the Year nominees for 2022 were: Gary Campbell, Jason Carroll, Kevin Crafton, Mark Eykyn, Dan Feld, BJ Hamilton, Ron Hires, Aaron Holibaugh, Derrick Jacobus, Mary Lancaster, Raymond Leak, John Manzione, John Nikolouzos, Kevin Pedrick, Marc Renaud, Denise Savastano and Ryan Smith.
New in 2022, the Recreation Commission created the ‘Charlie Gallagher Unsung Hero Award.’ The award was named after longtime EHT Volunteer Coach and Recreation Commission boardmember Charlie Gallagher. The award is for those who, like Mr. Gallagher, quietly give back and going above and beyond for our EHT kids as a youth sports volunteer. The Recreation Commission named Dave Dorofee as the Unsung Hero award winner for 2022.
In addition to working with the kids who participate in BMX, Dave Dorofee is the track operator for EHT BMX. Dave is responsible for the safety, maintenance and performance of the track. The track underwent a significant capital improvement in 2018. Much of the work and design of the track was led by Dave. Dave is well-known for having a positive, can-do attitude and works extremely hard throughout the year to make sure our local riders have a premium facility.
