MARGATE – The Margate Business Association and Sustainable Downbech teamed up to celebrate Earth Day 2021 with a Poster Contest, exhibits, giveaways and “Find the Duck Scavenger Hunt” on Saturday, April 24.

The MBA and Sustainable Downbeach understand the importance that barrier islands have with its wetlands on one side and the ocean on the other.  Both are vital by not only providing recreation but also their essential role in supporting wildlife.  It is important they are properly protected and nurtured.

To help share this message, the MBA and Sustainable Downbeach held a poster contest to get the children’s perspective on their view and how we can protect the environment.  The posters were displayed at participating Margate shops and restaurants.

Small gift ducks were hidden in plain sight around the Margate Business districts with an environmental message tucked inside each one along with a coupon for a free slice of pizza from Bocca’s Coal Fired Bistro.

Sustainable Downbeach had a table set up in front of Hot Bagels and More at Essex and Ventnor Avenues with environmental information, a display of sea life and environmentally friendly totes.  A “Check your knowledge about the local environment” with an ecology quiz earned participants a chance to win a Wawa coupon.
