Community FoodBank of NJ Hosts Women Fighting Hunger Luncheon

Featuring food justice advocate Sophia Roe, event to raise funds for New Jersey neighbors in need

The Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ) will host its annual Women Fighting Hunger Luncheon from 11 am to 2 pm on Wednesday, October 25, at the Linwood Country Club in Linwood. Founded eight years ago in northern New Jersey, the event will be held for the second time simultaneously in southern New Jersey, uniting supporters from around the state. The Women Fighting Hunger Luncheon seeks to raise more than $375,000 statewide to support CFBNJ’s focus on providing healthy food for New Jersey neighbors in need.

Attendees will enjoy a formal program and partake in a volunteer activity, along with lunch and networking. Celebrated chef and food justice advocate Sophia Roe will be the event’s featured speaker, simulcast to the Linwood location. Sophia is a Brooklyn-based James Beard Award-winning chef, writer, founder of Apartment Miso, and Emmy Award-nominated TV host known for her distinct lens on honesty, diversity, and inclusivity. Her passion for food has always been connected to an understanding that some people have access to nutritious foods, while others simply and problematically do not. This duality is the foundation for Sophia’s work: celebrating the beauty and art in cooking while creating resources to advance food justice and build more sustainable and equitable systems.

The luncheon at Linwood Country Club will also include a live conversation with certified nutritionist and fitness professional Nancy Adler, Samantha Kiley, Executive Director for the AtlantiCare Foundation, and Michelle Gross, Director of Community Nutrition for CFBNJ. They will discuss health and wellness and how the conditions in which we work, live, and grow affect our well-being.

CFBNJ’s Women Fighting Hunger Luncheon is an opportunity to join with a community of action-oriented women who have dedicated their time to support CFBNJ’s goals and priorities through hands-on philanthropy, leadership, and collaboration.

The Eighth Annual Women Fighting Hunger Luncheon is open to everyone, and corporate sponsorship is available. The Linwood Country Club event is supported by Spencer’s & Spirit Halloween and ACME Nourishing Neighbors as Presenting Sponsors, Atlantic City Electric as Luncheon Sponsor, and AtlantiCare as Healthy Student Sponsor.
