Habitat for Humanity opens second Restore location

By Krystle J Bailey

Habitat for Humanity, Atlantic County works to build homes, community, and hope in our area. The organization offers homes to families who struggle to make ends meet or simply do not have the resources to purchase a house of their own.

Families who are blessed with a Habitat For Humanity home are not just handed a house, however. They must put in the sweat equity by participating in the building process. After putting in the required 250 hours of labor, the home owners are locked into a 0% interest mortgage.

The homes are sponsored by various local businesses who contribute both in man hours and finances to provide homes to those in need.

Two years ago, Habitat For Humanity implemented a ReStore location where they began collecting gently used furniture, supplies, and decor at deeply discounted rates for families in the community. In addition to providing the community resources, ReStore is eliminating landfill waste by repurposing items that would otherwise be thrown away.

This past Saturday, they branched out even further and opened a second location in the Heather Croft shopping center.

Thirty volunteer electricians from IBEW Local 351 offered their time and expertise to demo, wire, and fully prepare the new location.

The next Habitat For Humanity fundraising event is happening on March 27th at Sofia’s in Margate. The  50/50 raffle event is in partnership with Atlantic County Board of Realtors. Funds raised will provide the resources for the building of the next Habitat For Humanity home.
