Annual event features trends and technology in trauma, critical care and emergency medicine
AtlantiCare’s Trauma Center team marked two milestones during their annual Trauma Symposium at Harrah’s Resort & Casino in Atlantic City. June 1 was their 25th year of hosting the educational event for healthcare professionals from the region, the tristate area, across the nation and around the world. It was also the 31st anniversary of when AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Atlantic City Campus opened the region’s only state-designated Level II Trauma Center.
AtlantiCare interim president and CEO Michael Charlton, who was marking his first day in his new role on June 1, joined the team at the event to congratulate and acknowledge them.
“Thank you for saving lives of critically injured patients – including those who live and work in southern NJ – and those who visit us from the tristate area, across the nation and around the world,” he said.
“In addition to saving lives, you’re enhancing lives,” Charlton added. “It is so fitting that the theme of the symposium is the patient experience. Patients who live far from our region have come back to AtlantiCare for follow-up care – including some travelling long distances. Plus, patients and their family members have chosen careers at AtlantiCare because of the ways you’ve cared for them.”
Charlton also acknowledged the critical role all first responders and community hospitals play in getting patients to the trauma center for lifesaving care after a critical injury.
Nearly 200 healthcare providers from throughout the tristate area and the region attended the event.
Over the last two years, AtlantiCare’s Trauma Center has cared for the highest-ever number of trauma patients – 1,859 in 2022, and 1,823 in 2021.
