The Atlantic County COVID-19 Vaccination Megasite team marked a special milestone today. Mindy Healy, of Waretown, had the 250,000th vaccination appointment at the Atlantic City Convention Center.

It was the second dose for Healy, who is a bartender at MJ’s Restuarant, Bar and Grill in Bayville, New Jersey. “I’m so happy to have gotten my second dose,” says Healy. “I want to be safe to serve my customers, many of whom are older, and to protect my family and everyone.”

Left to right are Siani Alicea, RN, AtlantiCare nurse vaccinator; Mindy and Bill Healy;
and Sagrario Ramos, FEMA support specialist at the Atlantic County COVID-19 Vaccination Megasite.

Healy’s husband, Bill Healy, an attorney, also got his second dose today. “My mother lives in Pennsvylania,” he says. “I want to be able to see her and to protect her and others. Everybody has to do their part for the collective good.” The two say a friend referred them to the site and they’ve since referred other friends.

“They team is wonderful”, says Mindy Healy. “I referred one of my coworkers. As soon as he got his second dose, he sent me a picture of his “AtlantiCare COVID-19 Vaccinated pin.”

“Providing a quarter of a million vaccinations takes extraordinary teamwork,” says Sherrie Bragg, MSN, RN, clinical facility manager, Megasite, and director, Ambulatory Nursing, AtlantiCare. “We are so grateful for the support of the New Jersey Air National Guard, FEMA, the Coast Guard, and all those ensuring we are protecting our community through the megasite and its off-site clinics. And of course, we are so thankful that so many individuals have chosen to be vaccinated. We encourage all those eligible, which currently includes those 16 and older, to be vaccinated. We still have work to do.”

“Mr. and Mrs. Healy are role models,” says Mike Heck, MSN, BSN, RN, CIC, infection preventionist, AtlantiCare. “It is so important that all those who have gotten a two-dose vaccine get their second to be fully protected. Those who only get the first of two doses are 50 to 80 percent less protected against COVID.”

Individuals seeking to be vaccinated at the site are encouraged to make an appointment at vaccination.atlanticare.org. Vaccination hours are 8 AM to 6 PM seen days a week. The megasite is continuing its 9 AM to 4 PM walk-in vaccinations seven days a week through May 8. Walk-in vaccinations will be first come, first-served as vaccine supplies last. Those who have registered online and made an appointment through vaccination.atlanticare.org will be prioritized.

Walk-in appointment availability is subject to change. Should individuals seeking a walk-in appointment during the designated times not secure one, the megasite team will make them an appointment for the following or another convenient day.

The site will be open until 8 PM Monday, May 10. Appointments are required from 4 PM to 8 PM that day.

Vaccinations are free.

The megasite is located in the Atlantic City Convention Center, 1 Convention Boulevard, Atlantic City, NJ 08401. Parking is free. The team offers special accommodations for those who have disabilities.
