Atlantic City Encourages Residents To Stay Home Due To Flooding During Hurricane Ian Remnants

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (October 3, 2022) – The City of Atlantic is preparing for gusty winds and flooding today and tomorrow during the afternoon high tide.

In response, the city on Sunday activated its flood response plan.

Atlantic City residents and visitors parked in low-lying areas are being told to move their vehicles to the Wave Parking Garage at Mississippi and Fairmount Avenues. Parking is free through Thursday at noon. The City utilized its siren system this afternoon to let residents know flooding is eminent and they must move their vehicles to higher grounds immediately.

Atlantic City Hall closed today at 1:30p.m. and, at this time, is scheduled to close tomorrow, October 4th, at 2:30 p.m.

Heavy flooding is anticipated on Route 30, Route 40, Melrose Avenue from Delaware to Massachusetts Avenues and West End in Chelsea Heights. Roads in some or all of these areas are expected to close this afternoon.

“We’re going to see significant gridlock in the city, so we encourage everyone to stay home, don’t drive, don’t go out if you don’t have to, and if you live in those low-lying areas, move your car,” said Atlantic City Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Scott Evans.
