Atlantic Christian School donates nearly 2.5 tons of food to Community FoodBank of NJ as a result of ‘Bowls of Hope’ Food Drive

Atlantic Christian School recently donated nearly 2.5 tons of food to the Community FoodBank of NJ, Southern Branch, collected as part of the school’s 2023 Bowls of Hope Food Drive. High school students on the Student Council, who helped organize the school-wide event, packed up and loaded the donations into 26 large boxes and bins that were picked up by a FoodBank truck on Thursday, February 9.

The Food Drive was held during the month of January and concluded on February 4 at the Bowls of Hope Soup Cook-Off Benefit. The amount of non-perishable food donated – weighing 4,811 pounds – set a new school record. The previous was reached in 2021 with 4,655 pounds of food collected. Mrs. Ashley Brossman’s 2nd grade class also won first place among all PreK2-12th grade classes for collecting the most non-perishable food items during the food drive — 1,118 items – and received a pizza party as their prize.

“Thank you to everyone who donated throughout January and to everyone who attended our Bowls of Hope Soup Cook-Off and brought in food to make this an overwhelming success,” said Event Coordinator Christian Delacruz, who oversaw the drive assisted by Student Council Advisor Dan Vasquez. “Your generosity will be a blessing to families in our community who are struggling to put food on the table.”

Atlantic Christian School, founded in 1971, is an independent, non-denominational school, dually accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Association of Christian Schools International, that educates some 700 children from PreK2 to the 12th grade.
