Absecon’s Best Kept Secret is Up the Creek

By Cindy Christy Fertsch

Backing up to the bay, with its spectacular sunsets on Faunce Landing Road in Absecon, sits JW’s, a small restaurant with a big flavor and following. Under the new ownership of partners, Brad Jacobson and Sam Barile Jr., JW’s has risen to a new level.

Jacobson and Barile first met 15 years ago while working at a restaurant in Margate. As their friendship grew, so did their vision. With Jacobson’s background in restaurant management and Barile’s culinary skills, they became the perfect duo. In August they purchased JW’s and created a new vision for it.

“It’s all about passion and making people happy,”shares Barile.”Food brings family and friends together.”

Chef Sam began cooking when he was only 13 years old. Now, he has mastered the art, perfecting his southern cajun style. Every Sunday is Barbecue Fest at JW’s featuring Smoked Brisket, Ribs, Pulled Pork and Barbecue Chicken. Call early because they consistently sell out, especially the Brisket. By 10 am the morning I visited, 40 orders were already placed. Another favorite amongst the locals is Chef Sam’s pepperoni and cheese bread. I tried this and it is mouthwatering, to say the least! This too sells out quickly so place your orders well in advance.

JW’s offers an indoor dining area as well as multiple picnic tables outside with an unbeatable view of the marina and bay. It is BYOB, and specialty mixes are available for popular drinks.

This Saturday, October 31st, JW’s will be hosting a Halloween party that includes costumes, ghoulish games, apple cider, trick or treating and more. They will also be presenting a check to the Community Food Bank- Southern Branch in Egg Harbor Township. “We believe if we do the right thing, good things will happen,” shared Jacobson.

If you haven’t already, stop by and check out JW’s in Absecon. For more information go to Facebook.com/JWRestaurant or call (609)380-4848
