A Snowy Winter Ahead?

A Snowy Winter Ahead?

Weather With Nor’easter Nick

ByNick Pittman

We missed out on a HUGE snowstorm by the skin of our teeth and the hair on our chinny chin chins! It is a very RARE thing to see a snowstorm clobber the Virginias and NORTH CAROLINA, and NOT us. Have you ever heard the term “it’s too cold to snow”? Well that’s exactly the scenario. It has to do with high pressure and its position relative to our area. High pressure systems act as a buffer and prevent storminess. With the high parked over southern New England, the storm to our south has no room to claw north. It goes flat out to sea. Perhaps a few of you saw some flakes along Cape May point beach? That was the extent of the precip for our area. It literally missed us by under 20 miles. Razor thin!

Where do we go for the remainder of this week? Well the past two days were dry and guess what? The next two will be as well. We have a storm that will bring some heavy rain our way this weekend. We also have a period of “warmer” temps coming our way. Winter/Snow lovers, you need not worry – I anticipated a brief warmup as we follow in the footsteps of the Winter of 2002-03. We will turn cold and active again, I promise. There will be MANY opportunities for snow. After all, Winter hasn’t “officially” started yet and we’re already 5″ in for the season. Do you snow dances!
