ATLANTIC CITY SARACINI-O’NEIL 9/11 MEMORIAL SERVICE: 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Sept. 11 on the Boardwalk between Jackson Avenue and S Newton Place. The ceremony will honor American heroes who died on Sept. 11, 2001, especially local Atlantic City residents, Victor Saracini and John O’Neil. Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian, Miss America 2016 Betty Cantrell, representatives from the Atlantic City Police Deparment and Atlantic City Fire Department.

EGG HARBOR CITY 911 CEREMONY: 5 p.m. on Sept. 11 at City Hall, 500 London Ave., Egg Harbor City. State Commander Thomas Messina will lead a service titled “The Final Chapter.” Guests are encouraged to bring a flower to place at the memorial to honor those who lost their lives in the attack. SMITHVILLE 9/11 HEROES RUN: 9:11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10. A 5K and 1-mile Fun Run/Walk that starts in front of Fred & Ethel’s in Smithville and heads out onto Route 9. Opening ceremonies begin at 8:46 a.m.(when the first plane hit the World Trade Center). Kelly Wright from Fox News Channel is singing the national anthem. This is one of over 50 Travis Manion Foundation 9/11 Heroes Runs that take place around the country on the weekends before and after Sept. 11. The proceeds from therace benefit the Travis Manion Foundation which helps the nation’s military, veterans and families of the fallen, as well as hometown heroes, Mainland PBA Local 77.

SOMERS POINT REMEMBERS RICHARD SOMERS: 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Sept. 11, as America mourns the victims of the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, Somers Point rememebers its local hero who died 5,000 miles by the “Shores of Tripoli” during America’s first war against terror. A  National military historian Chipp Reid joins with local attorney and adjunct history professor Seth Grossman to tell the remarkable story at yearly ceremony sponsored by the City of Somers Point and its Historical Society. HAMILTON TOWNSHIP 9/11 CEREMONY: 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11, Hamilton Township will hold its annual 9/11 ceremony in Memorial Park located at Main Street and Route 50 in Mays Landing on 7 p.m. Sunday.  The event will open with a procession to include a flag bearer, drummer and emergency vehicles on Main Street and will include musical selections by the Community Choir. 9/11 REMEMBRANCE TALK: 7:00 pm to 11:59 pm, Sep. 16, Margate Community Church is hosting a 9/11 Remembrance Talk on Friday, September 16th at 7:00 pm in the Church.On the 15th anniversary of 9/11, Chaplain Bob Ossler, firefighter, paramedic, pastor and author of Triumph over Terror (with Janice Hall Heck), will share his experience from his 45 days as volunteer chaplain at Ground Zero. Bring your friends and come hear this extraordinary story of faith in action. You will be inspired by the best of humanity working together in the midst of unimaginable devastation. MARGATE: At 10 a.m. Sunday Sept. 11, the Margate City Fire Department will be conducting a ceremony. The event will be in front of Margate City Fire Department Station 1 on Ventnor Avenue near Washington Avenue.

BRIGANTINE COMMUNITY PRAYER BREAKFAST: 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, in Brigantine. Guest speaker FDNY Lt. Joseph Torrillo (Ret.). Torrillo was buried under the debris of the first collapse and was placed on the official missing in action list. Following his rescue, he lay unconscious in the hospital, where he had been misidentified. Some time later he was correctly identified by hospital personnel. Torrillo will speak of his 9/11 experiences as a New York firefighter and the effect that it has had on his outlook on life going forward. Call 609-264-1040 or email brig4417@msn.com.
