3 Awesome Cocktail Recipes Kick-Off August

By Linda Arceo

As we head into the final month of summer I am sharing three awesome cocktails to kick-off August. Summer at the shore isn’t over yet, but the arrival of August brings us the sad reminder that our summer days limited.

What better way to combat the August blues than with a refreshing summer cocktail? So, grab some ice and your favorite cocktail shaker and let’s whip up these three must-try cocktail recipes to help savor the last weeks of summer.

The Danny Ocean

This recipe is named after George Clooney’s iconic movie character and features the tequila Casamigos, which is Clooney’s tequila company. I first tried this recipe while on vacation and knew it would make for the perfect summer drink for sipping at the shore.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz. Casamigos Reposado Tequila
  • 3/4 oz.  fresh lemon juice
  • 3/4 oz. fresh pink grapefruit juice
  • 1/2 oz.  agave nectar
  • 1/4 oz. maraschino liqueur

Instructions

Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

Shake well. Strain into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice.

Garnish with a grapefruit slice.

Rumchata Cold Brew

Inspired by my love of a good cold brew, this cocktail combines the refreshing jolt of cold coffee with creamy RumChata for a drink that is perfect for any time of the day.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz  RumChata
  • 3 oz Cold Brew Coffee

Instructions

In a glass over ice combine one ounce RumChata and three ounces cold brew coffee.

  • Stir to blend and serve. Enjoy!

  • Frozen Blueberry Margarita

If you took advantage of our local blueberry season and have a bounty of blueberries on hand, or happen to have a bag of frozen blueberries in your freezer, than this is the cocktail recipe for you. This drink is perfect for a post-beach happy hour. (Pro Tip: Make sure to check out the July 15, 2021 issue of Shore Local for my Homemade Blueberry Simple Syrup recipe for even more blueberry flavor.)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups frozen blueberries
  • 1/4 cup tequila
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup
  • 1 oz triple sec
  • 1 oz blueberry simple syrup or liqueur
  • 24 ice cubes

Instructions

Add the blueberries, tequila, lemon and lime juices, simple syrup, triple sec, blueberry liqueur, and ice to a blender with ice-crushing ability.

Blend on high until the mixture is smooth.

Salt rim of glass.

Divide the margaritas among two 12-ounce margarita glasses and serve immediately.

Garnish with a lime.
