Le Tour de Downbeach Sunday, June 4 (rain date June 11)

Ventnor, Margate, New Jersey: Join the boardwalk peloton and the wave of yellow shirts at Le Tour de Downbeach , Sunday, June 4 (rain date June 11). This year, a donation will be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in memory of one of Le Tour’s original organizers, Ann Marie Wiesen.  Starting behind the Ventnor Library, the family ride is a chance to enjoy the beauty of our seaside communities.  The family friendly 14-mile bicycle tour begins each year in Ventnor and travels through Atlantic City (turn around at Kennedy Plaza), Margate and Longport and ending with a barbecue at Tomatoe’s restaurant on Amherst Ave. in Margate. 

The first 200 riders receive a Le Tour de Downbeach commemorative t-shirt.  Riders get a happy face sticker at the start of the ride, refreshments and music provided by 95.1 WAYV and the day concludes with a delicious barbeque at Tomatoes Restaurant with free water ice provided by Margate Dairy Bar and Burger.

“Le Tour is a great way to kick off the start of summer, one of the happiest times of year and enjoy the biggest family bike ride at the shore!  We look forward to seeing all of our good friends on June 4,” said Mike Wiesen, volunteer and owner of AAAA Bike Shop.

BEACHSTOCK PRE-GAME: Free Wiffle Ball Home Run Derby & Phillies vs. Mets viewing

For the first time ever to kick off Beachstock, The Planet’s Biggest Beach Party, the MBA will host a FREE Wiffle Ball Home Run Derby on the Granville Ave beach Friday June 23 from 5pm-7pm. Day of registration begins at 4om. The derby will precede the big screen LED digital showing of the National League Champion Phillies vs. Mets, free of charge, first pitch is 7:05pm.    All participants in the derby will be divided into age groups (age 6 and over), flex their muscles and have 10 swings to hit the most home runs in that age group for awesome prizes.  The beach will be complete with USA DJ Entertainment making play by play announcements and an outfield fence on the beach. BEACHSTOCK 2023 The Planet’s Biggest Beach Party What’s better than a daylong party on the beach?  Nothing!  Admission is FREE and no beach badges are required at the event.  This year’s event features new food vendors, kid’s activities, live music, free surf and kite lessons and so much more!  Beachstock now in its 12th year attracts over 5,000 visitors and returns to the Margate Beach Saturday, June 24th 8:00am – 10 pm (Rain date June 25th) between Huntington and Granville Ave, Margate. Beach goers will have plenty of food to choose from whether it’s hamburgers and ice cream from Margate Dairy Bar and Burger, pizza and subs from Tony Baloney, shrimp bangers and crab cake sliders courtesy of Vagabond Kitchen and Taphouse, savory tacos from TacoCat and root beer served in vintage tin cups by the ever-popular Tin Cup Soda. Culinary vendors Goodway Bakery will be selling their mouthwatering assorted rum cakes and Preservation Provision will have their home-made jagged pickles, jagged green beans and pickled peppers.  Hot!

Back again is the Sustainable Downbeach tent featuring, terrapins, fun environmental educational interactive activities, displays and more.  Those wanting to learn more about what lives in our waters and all the beautiful aspects of our beach can meet at the 100.7 WZXL main stage for an environmental walk hosted by “Scuba” Steve Jasecki, a member of the Sustainable Downbeach team.  The Emerald Isle Academy of Irish Dance performers will again mesmerize Beachstock crowds with their highly choreographed, intense dance routines.

Lots of FREE activities like sand sculpting lessons with Matthew Deibert, Margate Fire Departments Cool Blast, Kid’s Treasure Hunt, limbo contests, surf lessons with Stacey’s Surf Camp, Air Circus Kite Shop single/double line stunt kite demonstrations and lessons, and WAWA Margate giveaways. The Margate City Police Department will be at their tent providing valuable public information and give aways.  

A major feature of this 14-hour event is non-stop entertainment on the 100.7 WZXL main stage. Local signing sensation Teddi Fusco kicks off the event with the National Anthem.   The musical lineup includes the ever-popular local feel-good music rock and pop cover band No Clue Trio.  Country singing sensation Nikki Briar A TASTE OF COUNTRY- A LICK OF ROCK! will have event goers getting “a little bit country” with her dance lessons and rocking performance.  Beachstock favorite Mas Tequila Orchestra will perform a set of classic rock hits and reggae masters, Jah People headline evenings main stage playing Reggae with a splash of funk, rock and soul!

As twilight turns to evening, the bonfire is lit and the excitement continues with a Samoan fire knife dance performance by the South Pacific Island Dancers . At dusk, children and their families can spread out their blankets, kick back in their beach chairs and enjoy the movie Finding Nemo on a digital big screen. 

Back this year is the Cornhole Spring League Championship and Beachstock Family Fun Cornhole Tournament.  Official rules will apply, and teams can compete to win cash prizes. Spectators and guests and watch the tournament from the Colmar Home Center Chill Zone featuring comfy furniture and refreshments. MBA 20th Annual Wine Tasting, July 28th – 6:00 pm-9:30 pm (Rain date July 29th.)

Outside Location: Edgmar Circle Recreation Field, part of the Jerome Avenue Complex. 

Music by Usual Suspects (Cover/Pop/Rock) Food, wine and spirits tasting, silent auction. Tickets $75. 

The Margate Business Association’s 20TH Annual Wine Tasting will be held outdoors at the renovated recreation complex on Edgmar Circle, Friday night July 28 from 6pm-9:30pm.  This tranquil setting will enhance an unforgettable evening of wine, craft beer and spirit tastings, mouthwatering hors d’oeuvres and sweets, a silent auction, with dozens of desirable items to bid on, and blistering live entertainment by the pop, rock cover band Usual Suspects.  Tickets are $75 per person and can be purchased at www.mbawine.com or at margatehasmore.com.  

The event will showcase delectable food from local restaurants with sweet treats provided by Jagielky’s Homemade Candy.  Over 430 guests attended last year’s event, the tented, outdoor setting being so popular that the event committee decided to hold it again at Edgmar Circle Recreation Field. In addition to the fine sampling and auction items offered guests enjoyed recreational cornhole, ping pong, chess and checker games.

Auction items are generously donated by businesses and individuals throughout the community. This year’s auction will feature sporting event tickets, gift baskets, exotic trips, show tickets, gift certificates from local boutiques and retailers, and more! Advance bidding for items is available at  www.mbawine.com.  The Wine Tasting Committee is co-chaired by Paula Hartman and Dana Hartman-Hiltner.

“The MBA wine tasting is such an amazing event that everyone looks forward to year after year,’ said Dana Hartman Hiltner. “For 20 years the Margate community has come out in force to support all of the MBA’s programs, and the outdoor venue has really allowed this event to grow and raise even more money.”

A portion of the proceeds benefits the Margate Business Association’s Daniel and Maria Walters Scholarship Program which has awarded over $120,000 in scholarships since its inception.  The scholarships are awarded to high school seniors who have attended Margate City schools and are continuing their education.  The event also supports the MBA’S Children Fund in conjunction with the Margate schools which anonymously provides warm clothing, school supplies, food, eyeglasses, summer camp for latch key children, toys and more for local children.  

3rd Annual Margate Duck Derby – August 13 (rain date August 20) – 11:30am-3pm; Amherst Avenue and the Bay at Washington Ave.

Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Ducks crossing the finish line.

Duck Derby Raffle – It’s A FLOATING QUACK-A-PALOOZA at Ray Scott’s Dock!! Weighted, numbered rubber ducks are dumped into the bay into a closed course and with a little help from the current, ducks are funneled towards the finish line.  Ducks are removed with fishing nets by staff kayakers. Participants have NO interaction with the rubber ducks they can watch from the promenade area. Visa gift cards are awarded to the top three finishers.

Activities will begin at 11 am along the Washington Avenue Pier and walkway with the derby beginning at approximately 11:30 am.  Guests can watch the ducks race to the finish line from the Washington Avenue Pier.

Children can also try their luck at the Duck Chuck, Quack in the Hole, Fishin’ for Fowl and other great activities for some fun prizes.  Providing musical entertainment for the event is USA DJ who will be playing the Chicken Dance for guests to participate and the best chicken (yeah we know it’s a duck derby but it’s close!) dancer selected by USA DJ wins a prize! 

To participate in the Quack-A -Palooza, adults 21 and older can purchase their raffle ticket at Thrilling Thursdays’ Movies on the Beach, Margate Farmers Market on Thursdays at Steve and Cookie’s or from Wendy at Bocca Coal Fired Bistro- Tuesday and Wednesday 4pm-8pm. Ticket sales will end on Friday, August 12 at noon and tickets will not be sold on the day of the event.

The numbered weighted ducks correspond to the number on the purchaser’s raffle ticket.  The first three ducks to enter the finish area win!  Prizes are Visa pre-paid gift cards with first prize winning $1000, 2nd $500 and third $250. The ducks will be dumped into the closed course in the bay between Ray Scott’s Dock and the Washington Avenue Pier with kayakers and boats guiding the ducks and making sure that no duck escapes.  The rubber ducks will be scooped out by the kayakers at the end of the derby.  A portion of the proceeds benefits MBA community programs.

Margate Fall Funfest By The Bay, Saturday and Sunday, September 23 & 24

Margate Fall Funfest by The Bay celebrates the beauty of the bay area and the promenade along the water on Amherst Avenue. Now in its 22nd year, brings fresh and exciting family friendly venues for 2023.  Over 20,000 visitors attend Margate Fall Funfest, a true celebration of the season, our beautiful bayfront, and the friendly spirit of the people of Margate!  

Funfest is loaded with new entertainment and activities including music, games, back-bay nature tours and educational exhibits. Vendors from throughout the region will be offering numerous food choices like barbeque, cheese steaks, pizza, seafood and mini donuts.  A beer garden and Tito’s Bloody Mary Village offer plenty of opportunities to quench anyone’s thirst. Amherst Avenue bars and restaurants will also be alive with patrons and the fun kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 11 am-6 pm and continues through Sunday the 24th from 11am-4 pm.

A dozen musical bands will be featured on the main stage, playing everything from rock, to country, to reggae. Visitors will also enjoy Steve and Cookie’s Annual Dog Show, featured guests and new and exciting activities. These are just some of the many highlight’s visitors can expect to find along Amherst Avenue, between Decatur and Coolidge Avenues and a two-day Cornhole Tournament. Children and adults are able to participate in this family fun competition to win cash prizes!

Featured entertainment this year on the 95.1 WAYV Kid’s Stage will include games and magicians, performing jaw dropping shows with comedy and audience participation. Crafts from over 65 juried artisans offering a wide variety of handmade crafts including: wood designs, pottery, fall décor, culinary artisan products and unique jewelry. All of this will be in addition to a cartoon character parade, an appearance by Miss New Jersey, children’s gymnastics and yoga demonstrations and much more.

Funfest After Dark – Saturday, September 23, Live Music by NJ British Invasion, wine and spirits tasting. Funfest After Dark; Definitely Not for Kids, will continue the weekend’s fun into the night of the 23rd, from 7:30pm to 10pm. Funfest After Dark is a special adults-only event with free live music by the NJ British Invasion as well as wine and spirits tasting and light finger foods. Margate’s Shop Small Business Weekend and American Sign Language Santa Rides into Town, Friday November 24-Sunday November 26

The Margate business and restaurant districts will be celebrating Shop Small Business weekend beginning Friday, November 24 through to Sunday, November 26 by offering great sales, discounts, contests for shoppers and a parade through town led by America Sign Language (ASL) Santa on Saturday November 25. 

Santa will leave from the Margate Fire Station on Washington Avenue at noon and travel up Cedar Grove to Atlantic Avenue down to Coolidge Avenue and will then be escorted down the length of Ventnor Avenue by the Margate City Fire Department and the Margate City Police Department to Bocca Coal Fired Bistro, Essex Ave.  Santa, his elves along with some very special characters will also be available for pictures and visits both outside of Bocca and then inside the restaurant where children can also enjoy a complimentary slice of pizza and beverage along with a wrapped Wawa cookie and craft kit. Children can drop off their letters to Santa at his slotted mailbox in the foyer of Bocca from Saturday, November 25 to December 5 at 6pm. 

A series of contests will be held including ‘Receipts are all the Rage’ where a lucky winner will receive a Margate gift card. A ‘Your Favorite Business’ photo contest will ask all participants to submit a photo of a Margate business for a chance at a gift card.  On Saturday, a scavenger hunt for coupons hidden in small holiday boxes will be placed throughout the business districts, nothing will be hidden inside a business.  New Jersey Fairy Hair will be on hand at Bocca ready to adorn your hair with sparkly strand extensions.  A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Atlantic County Toys for Kids Program.  Guests are encouraged to bring a new unwrapped toy to donate to the program.

Margate Fields Winter Wonderlights 

Enjoy the spirit of the holiday season by visiting the beautifully lighted Margate recreation fields on Jerome Avenue.  The celebration begins Friday November 24 from 4:30pm-7pm with music, food trucks, beverages, activities and the field lighting.   Be sure to bring your camera!
