By Cindy Christy Fertsch

Janet Robinson Bodoff of Ventnor City and Leesa Toscano of Atlantic City have been long-time friends and are both local writers. The duo came together to curate a collection of heartfelt stories, memories, poems, and more in celebration of Atlantic City and Absecon Island’s rich history. Recently published by Arcadia Publishing, the book is a collection of over 30 stories and poems that highlight the city, the people, the culture, and the history.

“I loved this book as it brought back many happy memories of living in Atlantic City,” shares one reader. “I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever lived, visited, or vacationed in Atlantic City.”

“Speaking of Atlantic City” has been very well received by a generation of both locals and visitors that enjoy the intriguing and rich history of Atlantic City. Interestingly, one reader shared that she was a caregiver for someone with dementia and when she read the stories aloud to that person, the woman lit up with excitement as she recalled the events of her past in Atlantic City.

From Steel Pier and the infamous diving horse to the annual Miss America pageants, Atlantic City is full of stories etched in the sand and surf.

Memories of birch beer and burgers slung from Hi Hat Joe’s linger on the tongues of those who frequented Joe’s in the 1950s. The sounds of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin ring in the ears of those who brought Atlantic City to life during those times. Now those stories have been memorialized for future generations to love and enjoy.
