The Vintage Jazz Band returns to the Ocean City Free Public Library, 1735 Simpson Avenue in Ocean City, for its fourth annual “From Ragtime to Swingtime” concert from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27th. This musical tour of American popular songs from 1900 to 1940 includes such classic tunes as Ain’t She Sweet; I’ve Heard That Song Before; Keeping Out Of Mischief Now; Love is Just Around The Corner; On A Slow Boat to China; You Can’t Pull The Wool Over My Eyes; I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm; Toot, Toot, Tootsie; and more! Between songs, a short backstory of the song or composer of the next tune is often given, providing an interesting and entertaining musical presen-tation. Band instruments include guitars, banjos, clarinet, alto saxophone, upright bass and drums, as well as a female vocalist.
Since forming in 2012, the six-piece Vintage Jazz Band has performed similar concerts at public libraries located in Margate, Ventnor, Ocean City and Egg Harbor Township. They have played at the N.J. Veterans Home in Vineland; the Port-O-Call Hotel in Ocean City; the Margate Senior Citizens Pavilion; Kennedy Park and Sal’s Cafe in Somers Point; municipal rec centers in Ventnor, Absecon, Galloway Town-ship, Marmora and Hammonton; assisted living facilities such as Wesley Manor and Seashore Gardens; and over-55 communities in Egg Harbor Township.
The band members and their instruments are: Seth Briliant (banjo and tenor guitar); Ed Willis (guitar and banjo); Andrew Ehrhardt (clarinet and alto saxophone); Mark Anderson (upright bass), John Ragan (drums); and Janney Murtha (vocals).
