Five things to try at Gregory’s Oktoberfest

By Danielle Davies

Gregory’s has made a lot of headlines recently with their trademark hold on “Taco Tuesday,” but there’s another Gregory’s tradition that should be on the forefront of your mind this time of year — it’s their 44th Annual Oktoberfest Celebration, and it’s absolutely delicious. Not sure what an Oktoberfest menu entails? Let us do the honors. Here are five things you absolutely must try on the Oktoberfest menu, available Fridays through Mondays through October.

1. Okto-bier-sampling

Before the food is even out of the kitchen, Oktoberfest guests should be taking the opportunity to sample some German beers. Gregory’s has several bottled beer options, including Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest, Hofbrau Original Munchenr, Konig Ludwig Weissbier and Becks Bier German Lager, but if you want to try a few flavors, we recommend the Okto-Bier-Sampling (see what they did there?) The package includes draught samples of Warsteiner Imported Oktoberfest, Sam Adams Oktoberfest and Stella Belgium Lager, all for just $8.

2. German Potato Pancake Appetizer

Potato pancakes are a great starter item for those new to German food — and for everyone who wants something tasty. Picture ten delightfully crisp and flavorful golden-brown potato pancakes served with applesauce and sour cream — and yes, they are just as delicious as they sound. They’re a perfect way to start the party.

3. Wiener Schnitzel One of Austria’s most traditional and representative dishes, Wiener Schnitzel is a dish of hand-breaded veal, golden-fried and served with fresh lemon wedges. Served with house-made redkraut and spaetzel (red cabbage and a traditional noodle dish), the dish comes with an optional delicate lemon butter sauce as well.

4. Southern German Sauerbraten

A delicious and classic way to serve roast beef, the Southern German Sauerbraten features slow-roasted choice beef in a marinade of red wine vinegar with herbs and spices. Served over spaetzel (those yummy noodles again), it’s topped with tangy gingersnap gravy. Yum-O.

5. Sausage Platter

If Oktoberfest has you thinking of sausage, this is the meal for you. The sausage platter at Gregory’s features two types of sausage — the traditional bratwurst made with smoked beef and a hint of nutmeg, and the Bavarian Weisswurst, made from minced veal and bacon — both served with Dusseldorf Mustard and extra kraut. It goes perfectly with an icy cold Becks Bier German Lager.

Gregory’s Restaurant and Bar is located at 900 Shore Road in Somers Point.
