Celebrate Israel @75 with Israel Defense Forces Speaker Panel Hosted by the Katz JCC

The Milton & Betty Katz Jewish Community Center (JCC) is hosting an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Speaker Panel, Wednesday, June 7 at 6:30 pm.  Four panelists and members of our community will talk about what it was like to serve the state of Israel’s military.  They’ll also answer audience questions about Israel and Isarel’s current political climate.  The event is free and open to the community.

“Our year-long celebration of Israel’s 75th birthday has included many wonderful programs and services.  We’ve partnered with other Jewish agencies and hosted a community wide celebration; a monthly lecture series and we even held an Israel themed indoor cycling class.  Focusing on Israel & the IDF Soldiers in our community, allows us to continue to provide Israel CENTERED cultural programming and educate those that want to learn more about life in Israel, through those that have served there,” said Marg Rosenblatt, Milton & Betty Katz JCC Chief Executive Officer.

Event attendees will share the IDF experiences of:

  • Yehuda Amir – Served in Golan Heights, on the border of Syria.
  • Iris Harari – Served during the Yom Kippur War.
  • Iris Levy – Served during a time of heightened soldier kidnappings and stabbings.
  • Moshe Shinar – Served during the 6th Day War.

Panelists will discuss the purpose of the Israel Defense Forces and its commitment to preserve the State of Israel, protect its independence and thwart all attempts by its enemies to disrupt the normal life within Israel. All Israeli citizens over the age of 18 who are Jewish, Circassian or Druze are required to serve in the Israel Defense Forces.

“I’ve been watching Israeli politics in the news and have seen the government evolve and change.  I knew that if I had questions about the current political environment in Israel, others would have questions too.  I liked the idea of our community sitting down and speaking with men and women that served in the IDF, providing us with their insight.  We are connected to Israel, and we have local experts who can supply us with a deeper understanding of Israel,” said Marla Rosenthol, Katz JCC Programming Chair for Israel @ 75.
