Beth Israel celebrates Simchat Torah

Beth Israel celebrated Erev Simchat Torah on Oct. 6 with a festive service led by Rabbi Michael L. Feshbach and Cantor Rhoda J. Harrison. Children waved flags and congregants danced around the sanctuary carrying the Torahs to commemorate the annual cycle of reading the sacred scrolls. A highlight of the evening was the traditional unrolling of the Torah around the sanctuary. Following the service, the congregation celebrated with a special Kiddush that included candy apples for the children.

Simchat Torah celebrates the annual cycle of Torah readings. It is traditional for the community to gather to hear the final verses of the Torah chanted, followed by the beginning passages.

Congregants marched with the Torahs around the sanctuary.
